Fancy a Seat? Bruce Hamilton at Princes Square
If you're a Charles Rennie Mackintosh fan like me then you'll love the exhibition on in one of the shop units on the first floor of Princes Square, Glasgow.
Showcasing a selection of Mackintosh reproductions made by Bruce Hamilton, visitors to the exhibition can test out every single chair on display - a rare opportunity to see how these beautiful chairs feel to sit on.
With examples like the domino table and set of 4 chairs in purple upholstery, as well as chairs used in the Willow tea rooms, there are plenty of examples to tickle your fancy.
Also included in the exhibition are some of Bruce's own designs - Mackintosh chairs with a few (dare-I-say-it) modern design improvements such as slight curvature to the backs to add comfort - as well as Mackintosh designs that were never realised in his lifetime that are reminiscent of 1950s Danish design (pictured above).
Adorable child-sized versions of the Mackintosh Argyle Chair are also on display at the front of the exhibition alongside a few clock designs, including one the same design as that which hung on the wall of my first year studio in the Mackintosh building on Renfrew Street pre-fire.
The exhibition is on for the month of October however it does have strange opening times. If you're itching to test out these chairs then I'd suggest you head down there Friday-Sunday 12-4pm - if it's a Friday then do say hello to my friend Karlie (pictured above) who'll be invigilating the exhibition and will answer any and all questions Mackintosh-related - she's a bit of a guru on that topic!
All-in-all a fantastic display of beautiful chairs, if you're looking for something a bit different to do then I'd recommend heading down there and trying the chairs out for yourself!
